Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi today said Bangladesh is expecting the ongoing trade facility from Sweden for another five years after graduation from the Least Developed Countries (LDCs).
“Sweden is an important business partner of Bangladesh. There is a good opportunity to increase trade between the two countries. Bangladesh will emerge from LDCs as a developing country in 2024.
Bangladesh is getting special discounts and duty free trade facility from Sweden in the case of rules of origin. Bangladesh is expecting this trade facility from Sweden for another five years after graduation,” he said.
The minister said while exchanging views with Swedish Ambassador to Bangladesh Alexandra Berg Von Linde at Bangladesh secretariat in the
city, said a press release.
Tipu said there is an opportunity to take advantage by exchanging and negotiating through Business to Business (B2B) meeting between the two countries.
He informed that Bangladesh is now producing world class products and Sweden can increase import of Bangladeshi products, including RMG, medicines, jute and jute goods, shrimp and frozen fish, ceramic products, ICT products, leather goods, handicraft and plastic products.
Tipu said the work of setting up 100 special economic zones in various important places of the country is progressing fast.
Meanwhile, various countries, including China, Korea, Japan and India, have come forward for investment in the economic zones, he added.
Alexandra Berg Von Linde said that Sweden is providing more importance to Bangladesh in terms of trade.
“Sweden is interested in increasing trade and investment with Bangladesh. There is a lot of opportunity to increase trade between
the two countries,” he added.
