Ease of Doing Business: BEZA to launch full-fledged One Stop Service for investors from March, 2019

BEZA is now taking necessary preparations with the support of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to provide the services to the local and foreign investors

Bangladesh will make a positive change in the ‘Ease of Doing Business’ through launching the full-fledged One Stop Service (OSS) and the service will also increase the investment from home and abroad, speakers said on Wednesday.

Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) will provide the investors with full-fledged OSS facility from March, 2019 by ensuring all necessary services in the economic zones from a single window.

BEZA is now taking necessary preparations with the support of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to provide the services to the local and foreign investors.

This was disclosed at a seminar on ‘One Stop Service for the investors’ in Economic Zones,’ organised by the BEZA at a Sonargaon hotel in Capital, on Wednesday.

Principal Coordinator (SDG) under the Prime Minister’s Office Md Abul Kalam Azad attended the seminar as chief guest, while BEZA Executive Chairman Paban Chowdhury presided over the occasion.

Senior Secretary of Commerce Ministry Shubhashish Bose, Senior Representative of JICA Bangladesh Yoshibumi Bito, Country Representative of Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Bangladesh Daisuke Arai spoke on the occasion, among others.

Abul Kalam Azad said, Bangladesh will enter into a new era from March 2019 through introducing full-fledged ‘One Stop Service’. 

“BEZA will ensure modern and swift services for the investors in the economic zones through OSS,” he added.

Shubhashish Bose said, Bangladesh will make a positive change in the ‘Ease of Doing Business’ through launching the full-fledged one stop service and the service will also increase the investment from home and abroad.

Paban Chowdhury said, BEZA has started the works for establishing fully automated OSS center to provide all sorts of information to investors from a single window.

The investors will get all other necessary permissions for making investments and starting a business from the OSS, he added.

The rules framed under the One-Stop Service Act 2018 make compulsory for 25 investment facilitating agencies and regulatory authorities to give registration, issue clearance, permits and other documents from one day to up to 45 days.

JICA project team leader Akihito Morinaga made a presentation on the OSS.

He said BEZA itself will provide some of the services including investment approval, building construction and work permit at the OSS.

Representatives of various government agencies at the OSS will give approvals and licenses including TAX/VAT registration, fire license, environmental clearance, boiler installation and customs clearance.

Making another presentation, BEZA General Manager Shoheler Rahman Chowdhury briefed the guests about economic zones development so far.
