Thailand: Announcement of the Department of Livestock Development, Re: Designation of Areas and Animal Species Subject to Animal Identification Marks, and Criteria, Procedures, and Conditions for Animal Identification Marks, B.E. 2560 (2017)

In order to ensure effective implementation of disease prevention and control measures for livestock raised within specific areas, animals transported across provincial boundaries, and animals imported into, exported from, or transiting through Thailand, and to enable traceability back to individual animals, the Department of Livestock Development hereby revises the regulation by repealing the Announcement of the Department of Livestock Development Re: Designation of Areas and Animal Species subject to Identification Marks, and Criteria, Procedures, and Conditions for Animal Identification Marks, B.E. 2559 (2016) dated 19 February 2016, and replacing it with this Announcement, B.E. 2560 (2017) dated 17 May 2017.The key provisions of this Announcement are as follows:1. Areas and Animal Species Subject to Animal Identification MarkingThroughout the country, all live beef cattle, live dairy cattle, live buffaloes, live goats, and live sheep aged over 4 months that are transported across provincial boundaries, as well as those imported into, exported from, or transiting through Thailand, shall also be marked with animal identification marks;2. Procedures for Animal Identification MarkingFor live beef cattle, live dairy cattle, live buffaloes, live goats, and live sheep imported into Thailand by air or sea, the livestock inspectors or veterinarians stationed at the animal quarantine station at the port of entry shall affix temporary animal identification marks, provided that each animal can still be individually identified. Upon arrival of the animals at the designated quarantine facility, permanent identification marks shall be affixed in accordance with this Announcement.
